New USTRANSCOM chief of staff named

SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill. (USTCNS) --- The U.S. Army chief of staff named an Army reservist to the newly created position of U.S. Transportation Command chief of staff in Washington, D.C. today.

Army Brig. Gen. Carlos D. "Butch" Pair was named as the new chief of staff and will assume duty June 19.

Pair, a reserve officer, is currently the deputy commander for mobilization at Military Traffic Management Command, headquartered at Alexandria, Va.

In the new position, his responsibilities will include coordination of staff activities for the command. He will also advise the USTRANSCOM commander in chief of matters concerning reserve component forces relating to the USTRANSCOM mission.

Pair has held a variety of command and staff positions including chief of staff, 377th Theater Army Area Command, commander, 3d Theater Movement Control Agency (Anniston, Ala.), commander 696th Maintenance Battalion, and commander 530th Maintenance Company.

His awards include the Meritorious Service Medal (with silver oak leaf cluster), Army Commendation Medal (with oak leaf cluster), and the Army Achievement Medal.

He is a graduate of the Quartermaster Officer Basic and Advanced Courses, the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College, and the U.S. Army War College.

Pair holds a bachelor's degree from Jacksonville State University.
