AMC supports United Nations' efforts in Sierra Leone

SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill. (USTCNS) --- An Air Mobility Command C-17 Globemaster delivered 42 short tons of ammunition to Freetown, Sierra Leone May 12 in support of the United Nations' peacekeeping efforts.

The C-17, assigned to the 437th Airlift Wing at Charleston Air Force Base, S.C., was flying a channel mission to Marka International Airport in Amman, Jordan, when it was diverted by AMC's Tanker Airlift Control Center, Scott Air Force Base, Ill., to carry the supplies into Sierra Leone.

"Our airlift fleet operates and trains around the globe, every day, providing our nation the ability to respond anywhere, anytime to a full-spectrum of contingencies - from combat operations, to humanitarian relief, to peacekeeping," said Capt. Jeff Glenn, command spokesman. "This is just another example of AMC's resolve to be ready when called by the National Command Authority."

AMC has not received any other taskings to support the movement of personnel or equipment. (FROM AIR MOBILITY COMMAND PUBLIC AFFAIRS).
