USTRANSCOM handbook on defense transportation system now available on-line

SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill. (USTCNS) --- U.S. Transportation Command's new handbook which provides an overview of the defense transportation system is now available on-line.

As reported in the USTRANSCOM News Service, Understanding the Defense Transportation System, (USTRANSCOM Handbook 24-2), was published in hard copy Sept. 1.

The handbook is now available in electronic format and can be downloaded at the following link: http://public.transcom.mil/J6/j6o/j6_oi/handbook.html

Hard copies will still be available through the USTRANSCOM Public Affairs Office for major commands or equivalent upon request.

For organizational military units, please route your request through the respective transportation component command public affairs office.

For tenant units on Scott AFB, copies are available for pick up at the Research Center or Public Affairs Office in Building 1900.

The book "introduces the DTS's customers, identifies strategic transportation assets and capabilities, and outlines future initiatives to enhance the DTS," stated Air Force Gen. Charles T. "Tony" Robertson, commander in chief of USTRANSCOM, and commander, Air Mobility Command in the document's introduction.

Highlighted elements include airlift, sealift and traffic management capabilities; DTS operations; statutory and regulatory guidance; and elements of the Transportation Working Capital Fund.

A section of future initiatives and technologies includes entries on High Speed Sealift; Agile Port; Agile Transportation Advanced Concept and Technology Demonstration (AT 2000); Modeling and Simulation; and Business Decision Support System.
