SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill. (USTCNS) --- An Air Force National Guard officer is scheduled to take command of the Joint Transportation Reserve Unit at U.S. Transportation Command here at an Oct. ceremony.

Brig. Gen. Robert P. "Lance" Meyer, Jr., will assume command of the JTRU Oct. 28, at 3:00 p.m., in the USTRANSCOM's Seay Auditorium at Scott Air Force Base. He takes command from Navy Rear Adm. Thomas J. Hill.

He is currently commander of the 121st Air Refueling Wing, Ohio Air National Guard, located at Rickenbacker International Airport, Columbus, Ohio. He is simultaneously a civilian serving as full-time air technical commander.

Meyer enlisted in the 121st Tactical Fighter Wing, Ohio ANG at Lockbourne, AFB, Ohio, in June 1965.

Following Air Force Basic Training and commissioning he attended Undergraduate Pilot Training at Moody AFB, Ga.

After completion of F-100 Gunnery School at Cannon AFB, N.M., in February 1968 he joined his ANG Unit which had been recalled to active duty at Kunsan Air Base, Korea, for the Pueblo Crisis for one year.

Meyer has been an Air Technician since 1975 and has served in various assignments in flying and operations, as well as command positions at group and wing levels.

He is a command pilot with over 4,800 flying hours. He has flown the T-37, T-38, F-100, A-7, F-16 and KC-135.

His previous assignments included commander, 166th TAC Fighter Squadron, commander, 178th Fighter Wing and several key staff positions.

Meyer is a graduate of The Ohio State University. His military education includes the Air Command and Staff College, and the Air War College.

His awards include the Meritorious Service Medal; Air Force Commendation Medal; and Air Force Achievement Medal among others.
