National Guard chiefs meet at USTRANSCOM
SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill. (USTCNS) --- U.S. Transportation Command hosted a meeting of 58 senior National Guard officials from across the country here Apr. 9.
Top National Guard officials from 43 states, Washington D.C., and the National Guard Bureau met at USTRANSCOM to discuss numerous issues. The officials are known as Adjutant Generals, or TAGs.
"This conference provided a forum for discussion on many issues. It also provided an opportunity for Gen. (John W.) Handy (the USTRANSCOM commander in chief and commander of Air Mobility Command) and the state TAG's to meet, get to know each other and build a relationship that is so important to both," said Col. Roger Warnick, a Utah Air National Guardsman on assignment as the National Guard Advisor to USTRANSCOM Operations and Logistics Directorate.
"Maj. Gen. William Cugno, TAG Connecticut, reviewed with the USTRANSCOM and AMC senior leadership the Disaster response apparatus set up by the governors within each state and Maj. Gen. Brian Tarbet, TAG Utah, covered his experience with the 2002 Olympics in Salt Lake City," said Warnick. "Also discussed were Mobilization, Force Protection, transport of Department of Defense materials through the states, Operation Noble Eagle, Operation Enduring Freedom, and Force Structure."
"The bringing together of the AG's, National Guard leadership, USTRANSCOM and Air Mobility Command breaks new ground for the future of integrated planning for Homeland Security and the federal mission," said Maj. Gen. Joe Simeone, Air National Guard assistant to the AMC Commander.
The adjutants general will return to their states with a strengthened relationship and broadened perspective on USTRANSCOM and its transportation component commands.
