USTRANSCOM supports Army’s Stryker certification

SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill. (USTCNS) --- The U.S. Transportation Command is working closely with the U.S. Army on its certification exercise for the Stryker Brigade Combat Team.

According to a recent Army news release, the 3rd Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division out of Fort Lewis, Wash., will undergo operational testing in May. USTRANSCOM will manage the airlift support for this exercise through its component command located here. The Air Mobility Command’s Tanker Airlift Control Center will provide the command and control for numerous C-17 Globemaster IIIs that will transport the SBCT.

C-17s and crews from two major Air Force commands will be used to support the exercises. The Air Mobility Command will help with assets from McChord AFB, Wash., and the Air Education and Training Command will also provide support from Altus AFB, Okla.

"Normally, we would try not to use Training Command assets. But, with the high level of support to CENTCOM and the importance of this exercise to the Army, we needed their help", said Air Force Col. Curtis Ross, Deputy Director of Operations at USTRANSCOM. “This is a perfect example of the total mobility force coming together to provide airlift assets while balancing numerous competing demands”.
