USTRANSCOM commander helps open new Shiloh-Scott MetroLink Station

SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill., (USTCNS) --- The United States Air Force Band of Mid-America played and the crowd of onlookers applauded as the first MetroLink train came into the new Shiloh-Scott MetroLink Station, June 21.

“The Shiloh-Scott MetroLink is, without question, one of the most incredible improvements in the quality of life to those of us at Scott Air Force Base that has ever happened,” said Gen. John W. Handy, commander of U.S. Transportation Command and Air Mobility Command.

In recognizing the many people responsible, Handy made a historical comparison. “I am reminded that Lewis and Clark were also doubted. They had a vision for linking the eastern and western United States, and this MetroLink is not at all unlike Lewis and Clark’s vision. It is exemplary of the great people of Illinois and the St. Louis area -- things we so deeply love while we’re stationed here.”

The new Shiloh-Scott MetroLink Station is expected to be very popular with the military personnel stationed at the base and the civilian employees working there.
