USTRANSCOM garners three awards for excellence in government

SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill., (May 7,USTCNS) --- U.S. Transportation Command garnered three awards at the annual Excellence in Government Awards Program ceremony held May 6, at the Orlando Gardens Banquet Center, St. Louis.

The week of May 3-7, 2004, Public Service Recognition Week, is set aside to recognize those individuals whose careers exhibit the highest standard of excellence and dedication.

The Greater St. Louis Federal Executive Board recognized over 2000 military and civilian employees for their outstanding service and leadership in 2003 with the awards program. Over 120 nominations of individuals and teams were submitted. Out of that number, 23 awards were presented. USTRANSCOM individuals and teams were nominated in six categories.

Winning an individual award was Air Force Staff Sgt. David Franklin in the technical category. Franklin is an Enlisted Controller in the Deployment Distribution Operations Center (DDOC) at USTRANSCOM.

Taking the award for a Professional Team was a group from USTRANSCOM's Strategy, Plans, Policy and Programs Directorate (J5). The Readiness, Exercises and Training team, headed by Army Col. Cheryl Mann, included Navy Capt. Dorice Favorite, Army Lt. Col. Hilary Evers, Air Force Lt. Cols. Rolando Guzman and John Bockhold, Navy Cmdr. Louis Patton, Air Force Maj. Jeffrey Bergdolt, Navy Lt. Cmdr. Kevin Campbell, Army Sgt. Sherwin Richardson, civilians Debbie O'Laughin, Robert Netemeyers, Linda Long and Robert Spurlock, and contractors John Turquette, Jim Coe, Chuck Dye, Dave Rowe, Robert Johnson, Steve Daniels, Todd Behne, Douglas Johnson, Russ Dulaney, Steve Marr, Scott Hill, Brian Thacker, John Kicklighter and John Tierney.

Another team from J5 took the Technical Team award. The Policy and Doctrine team was lead by civilian Barry Smithey, and included Army Lt. Col. Michael Hauser, Air Force Lt. Cols. Alain Griffin and Darren Fraser, Navy Cmdr. John Little, Army Maj. Scott Lofreddo, Air Force Majs. Amy Pappas, John Steele, Benjamin Jones and Scott Rizer, and civilians Robert Shannon, Lori Farnsworth, Jerry Walker, Debora Barnard, Kevin Boyce, Gary Conklin, Bill Heisel, Kathy Sneider, Melanie Kasson, Al Bane, Dave Blackford, Gwen Childs, Marlene Fridley, David Myers, Howard Wick, Nanvy Richter and Shanda Lyman.
