SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill., (USTCNS) --- The Defense Enterprise Accounting and Management System (DEAMS) functional management team received a Standard Financial Information Structure (SFIS) briefing/update from Mr. Dave Smith, Director, Financial Management Domain, Office of the Under Secretary of Defense (Comptroller) on Mar 2 in Fairview Heights, Ill.
The rollout of the SFIS concept across the Department of Defense is primarily dependent on new financial management systems such as DEAMS, but a business case assessment is being conducted with some of the legacy systems to determine the feasibility of implementing SFIS into them. The Standard Financial Information Structure is a comprehensive data structure that supports requirements for budget, financial accounting, cost and performance management, and external reporting across the DoD enterprise.
As the logistics, acquisition, human resources, installations and other business areas employ this common structure for Department of Defense and integrate with DEAMS, decision makers will be able to compare operations across organizational and service lines and make better informed performance management decisions regarding resources.
Improved financial visibility is important for USTRANSCOM, the Department of Defenses Distribution Process Owner (DPO). The combatant command is responsible for directing and supervising strategic distribution and for synchronizing all participants in end-to-end supply, transportation and distribution.
