USTRANSCOM COMPTROLLER WINS NATIONAL AWARD

SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill., (USTCNS)--- A comptroller assigned to the United States Transportation Command has won the Meritorious Award in the Comptroller Category from the American Society of Military Comptrollers. The award will be formally presented June 3, 2005.

Mr. Robert Folen, deputy director for Program Analysis and Financial Management, won the individual award in the Comptroller/Deputy Comptroller, Major Command Headquarters or higher category.

The competition included participants from all of the services and Department of Defense activities. “This is a big deal,” Folen said crediting his team as the real winners. “I was surprised… because it is so competitive.”

The ASMC is a non-profit educational and professional development organization with over 18,000 members, both military and civilian, in the field of military comptrollership. Folen has been an active member since 1995 and is currently serving as the President Elect for the Land of Lincoln chapter.

Folen joined USTRANSCOM in 1993 as the chief of the Transportation Working Capital Fund. He now leads a team of 53 dedicated professionals and oversees a $9 billion annual budget, one of the largest in the Department of Defense.

USTRANSCOM is a combatant command and is headquartered here. Its component commands include the Air Force’s Air Mobility Command, the Navy’s Military Sealift Command, and the Army’s Surface Deployment and Distribution Command.
