SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill. (USTCNS – Oct 3, 2005) --- The Senate has confirmed Lt. Gen. Duncan J. McNabb for appointment to the grade of general and assignment as commander of Air Mobility Command.

The general will assume command of AMC during a ceremony here later this month.

As AMC commander, General McNabb will be responsible for more than 148,350 men and women - active duty, Air National Guard, Air Force Reserve and civilians - who provide rapid, global mobility and sustainment for America's armed forces. The command also plays a crucial role in providing humanitarian support at home and around the world. Additionally, many special duty and operational support aircraft and aeromedical evacuation missions are assigned to AMC.

The general graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy in 1974, and has held a variety of command and staff positions at squadron, wing, major command and Department of Defense levels. Currently, General McNabb is the Joint Staff's Director for Logistics, where he is responsible for operational logistics and strategic mobility support to the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the secretary of defense.

During Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm, General McNabb commanded the 41st Military Airlift Squadron, which earned Military Airlift Command's Airlift Squadron of the Year award in 1990. The general later commanded the 89th Operations Group at Andrews AFB, Md., where he oversaw the air transportation of the nation's leaders, including the president, vice president, secretary of state and secretary of defense.

The general then served as commander of the 62nd Airlift Wing, McChord AFB, Wash. The wing earned the Riverside Trophy in 1996 as the 15th Air Force's outstanding wing.

From August 1997 to June 1999, General McNabb was assigned here and commanded the Tanker Airlift Control Center, which planned, scheduled and directed a fleet of more than 1,400 aircraft in support of combat delivery and strategic airlift, air refueling and aeromedical operations around the world.

He later served as director of programs with the Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff for Plans and Programs, Headquarters, U.S. Air Force, and as chairman of the Air Force Board, where he had oversight of all Air Force programs.

General McNabb is a command pilot and navigator with more than 5,400 hours in multiple aircraft, including the C-141 Starlifter, C-17 Globemaster III, C-20,C-21, T-37, T-38 and UH-1N.
