U.S. response to Pakistan earthquake - almost immediate
10/09/05 - U.S. Air Force personnel aboard a C-17 Globemaster III loaded with relief supplies prepare to depart Bagram Air Field, Afghanistan, Oct. 9, 2005, less than 48 hours after a devastating earthquake struck Pakistan and parts of India and Afghanistan, leaving thousands dead and thousands more injured. The cargo includes pallets of food, water, medicine and blankets and weighs nearly 90,000 pounds. The C-17 and its crew are from the 7th Airlift Squadron, McChord Air Force Base, Wash.
