Brig. Gen. Basla receives Management Award in Pentagon Ceremony

SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, ILL. (USTCNS) --– Brig. Gen. Michael Basla, Director of Command, Control, Communications and Computer Systems, United States Transportation Command, Scott Air Force Base, Ill., was presented the 2005 Eugene M. Zuckert Management Award, June 7, by the Honorable Michael Wynne, Secretary of the Air Force, during a Pentagon ceremony.

Basla received the award for his work as Deputy Director, Operational Support Modernization, Office of Warfighting Integration, and Chief Information Officer, Washington DC.

“I feel extremely honored to receive this prestigious award and recognition,” Basla said. “But I know the efforts of my team of airman, civil servants and government contractors really made it happen. They are the real heroes.”

According to Basla, the list of achievements in the citation to accompany the award, represent long hours worked by a cross section of specialists providing our warfighters with greater operational support capabilities. “I can't thank them enough for their contributions,” he said.

The Eugene M. Zuckert Management award is presented annually to recognize outstanding top-level Air Force managers. The award is named after Eugene M. Zuckert, who served as Assistant Secretary of the Air Force from 1947 until 1952 and Secretary of the Air Force from 1961 through 1965. Zuckert was a staunch advocate of teaming between the military and civilian workforce to capitalize on the military's knowledge of warfighting and the continuity provided by civilians.
