USTRANSCOM Sailor receives Navy Leagues Award of Excellence
According to Richard Kellemeier, vice president of the Navy League of the United States, St. Louis Council, Riley received the award for his professional performance, leadership skills and his involvement with and personal life saving commitment to a retired service members wife.
Riley, a hospital corpsman assigned to USTRANSCOMs Global Patient Movement Requirements Center here, donated a kidney to the wife of retired Navy Master Chief Petty Officer Cameron Towner, Hoo Ping, in July 2006.
Rileys decision to donate his kidney to Hoo Ping, who he met through an organ donor website, was the subject of a news documentary.
Riley was accompanied at the ceremony by his wife Becky and their daughters, Hannah and Haley.
Rileys father, William, who could not attend the ceremony, recently commented on his sons actions and accomplishments. He was always breaking new ground, and even in the Boy Scouts he was always a natural leader, William Riley said. He is always off doing something different.
