USTRANSCOM hosts interagency symposium
The event was designed to bring together a community of interest and focused on the current and future status of U.S. government interagency efforts as they relate to logistics, transportation and distribution challenges.
"The main objectives were to bring together professional logisticians from across the government and build or enhance personal relationships," said Lance Carpenter, chief, USTRANSCOM's Joint Interagency Coordination Group. "We also wanted to provide an educational forum that would bring the participants up to date on several logistics initiatives. Now the hard work of sustaining this tremendous start-up effort begins."
Promoted as an academic venue with practical applications, the event featured senior U.S. government leaders who spoke on their areas of expertise. They included Vice Adm. Thomas Barrett, deputy secretary, Department of Transportation and Maj. Gen. William Johnson, USTRANSCOM chief of staff.
Symposium attendance was by invitation only and included USTRANSCOM JIACG members, leaders from USTRANSCOM staff and components, representatives from government agencies, academia, the private sector and representatives of other combatant commands.
"I am pleased with the results of the symposium, despite significant impact imposed on participants by the active hurricane season," said Davidson.
