Secretary of Defense Robert M. Gates announced yesterday that the President has nominated Navy Rear Adm. Mark D. Harnitchek for appointment to the grade of vice admiral and assignment as deputy commander, U.S. Transportation Command, Scott Air Force Base, Ill. Harnitchek is currently serving as director for strategy, policy, programs and logistics (TCJ5/4), U.S. Transportation Command, Scott Air Force Base, Ill.

Johnson, deputy director, global effects, J-5, Joint Staff, Pentagon, Washington, D.C., would be assigned to director, strategy, policy, programs and logistics (TCJ5/4), U.S. Transportation Command, Scott Air Force Base, Ill.

USTRANSCOM is a combatant command of the armed forces and performs missions that support the deployment and distribution requirements that enable National Military Strategy.
