Estonian delegation visits Scott Air Force Base
The NDN is a joint initiative of USTRANSCOM and multiple agencies within the Department of Defense in partnership with the Department of State for the resupply of American forces in Afghanistan. Other defense agencies involved include U.S. Central Command, U.S. European Command, U.S. Department of State, and the Defense Logistics Agency.
The NDN project identified and negotiated international transportation routes to connect Baltic and Caspian ports with Afghanistan which can run through Russia, the Caucasus, and South and Central Asia. The supply network, which relies entirely on commercial shippers using commercial routes, is an alternative to vulnerable ground routes through Pakistan.
USTRANSCOM Commander Gen. Duncan J. McNabb briefed the group before they toured USTRANSCOM facilities and Air Mobility Command's Tanker Airlift Control Center.
