USTRANSCOM Acquisition directorate earns OSD recognition

U.S. Transportation Command’s Acquisition directorate received an “Outstanding” rating as the result of a Defense Procurement and Acquisition Policy Inspection which was conducted during the period of July 16 through Aug. 3.

SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill. – U.S. Transportation Command’s Acquisition directorate received an “Outstanding” rating as the result of a Defense Procurement and Acquisition Policy Inspection which was conducted during the period of July 16 through Aug. 3.

The Office of the Secretary of Defense inspection is a comprehensive Program Management review, or PMR, of all aspects of contracting procedures and operations.

According to Jill Wodochek, USTRANSCOM’s Acquisition directorate, the PMR team reviewed the overall integrity of the procurement system, business practices, pre-award process and business management.

“The team analyzed management data, reviewed files, conducted fact-to-face interviews with employees and customers and examined acquisition processes,” Wodochek said.  “The team reviewed nearly 100 contracts and conducted 45 interviews during the three-week inspection.

“TCAQ did an outstanding job,” Wodochek continued.  “The PMR team provided only four recommendations and eight suggestions to consider.  We received 11 commendable ratings which Kevin Conneen, the PMR team chief, said ‘Clearly makes TCAQ one of the best.’”

According to  Jeffery Beyer, USTRANSCOM/TCAQ, a few of the contracts reviewed include Civil Reserve Air Fleet (Airlift), Universal Services Contract (USC-6) Sealift, Afghan Rotary Helicopter, Defense Transportation Coordination Initiative (DTCI) road/rail and a large number of Advisory and Assistance Support contracts for USTRANSCOM.

“I couldn't be more pleased with the PMR results,” said Gail Jorgenson, director USTRANSCOM Acquisition.  “The PMR team confirmed what I have known for some time: USTRANSCOM's acquisition professionals are an awesome team.  They are some of the most talented, dedicated, ethical professionals I have ever had the opportunity to work with.

“On a daily basis,” Jorgenson continued, “they execute contracts that deliver unmatched capability to the warfighters without compromising on quality or regulatory/statutory compliance.”
