SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill. – U.S. Air Force Brig. Gen. Kenneth R. Council, Jr. relieved U.S. Army Maj. Gen. Daniel R. Ammerman as commander, U.S. Transportation Command's Joint Transportation Reserve Unit at USTRANSCOM's headquarters building here.
Council becomes the 13th commander of the JTRU and its Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, and Coast Guard reservists.
"To the men and women of the Joint Transportation Reserve Unit," Council said, "I stand here filled with pride to be your new commander. I have big shoes to fill and look forward to continuing the work of the past 12 JTRU commanders."
Council currently lives in Dayton, Ohio with his wife Doriann. He originally grew up in Thomasville, Georgia. As a civilian, he is an international pilot for a major airline.
Ammerman commanded the JTRU from 2017-2019, and was noted during the ceremony by USTRANSCOM deputy commander U.S. Marine Corps Lt. Gen. John Broadmeadow for having successfully achieved manning goals and successful integration of reservists into USTRANSCOM operations. As a departing message, he thanked the leadership of USTRANSCOM, the men and women of JTRU, and his family for their support during his command tour.
"The JTRU is the essential augmentation that the headquarters of USTRANSCOM requires when it must surge in response to a contingency either in the U.S. or abroad," Ammerman said. "I know that I am leaving the leadership of JTRU in good hands."
The JTRU augments USTRANSCOM in providing air, land and sea transportation for the Department of Defense, both in times of peace and war.
USTRANSCOM conducts globally integrated mobility operations, leads the broader Joint Development and Distribution Enterprise, and provides enabling capabilities in order to project and sustain the Joint Force in support of national objectives.
