U.S. Air Force Gen. Lori J. Robinson, commander, North American Aerospace Defense Command and U.S. Northern Command, spoke to members of U.S. Transportation Command and its component commands Aug. 15, at TRANSCOM’s headquarters at Scott Air Force Base, Illinois.

Robinson was the 12th guest in TRANSCOM's 30-4-30 Distinguished Speaker Series, an initiative to celebrate the command's 30th anniversary in October 2017.

NORAD conducts aerospace warning, aerospace control and maritime warning in the defense of North America. USNORTHCOM partners to conduct homeland defense, civil support and security cooperation to defend and secure the United States and its interests.

“I’m responsible for defending the U.S. and Canada in the air domain,” Robinson said of her NORAD role. “Our relationship with USTRANSCOM is huge because without tankers and tanker support, we couldn’t do our job.”

Robinson said USNORTHCOM was born out of 9/11, shaped by {Hurricane} Katrina and honed during {Hurricane} Sandy. “The role we play together is understanding capacity – getting support to the right place at the right time,” she said. “At the end of the day, there is no more sacred responsibility than to defend the homeland.”

USTRANSCOM provides full spectrum mobility solutions to support the joint warfighter in times of peace and war. The command focuses on providing options to the commander-in-chief in two ways: delivering an immediate force tonight through strategic airlift, tankers, and aeromedical evacuation; and delivering a decisive force when needed through strategic sealift and land distribution channels.

Previous participants in the 30-4-30 series included the Commandant of the Coast Guard, the Commander of U.S. Africa Command, the Commander of U.S. Strategic Command, and other senior civilian and military leaders.
