SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill. —  In observance of Women's Equality Day, Team Scott hosted a lunch and learn, aimed at supporting and reflecting on the significant strides women have made in the military to establish a more equitable service.

Prior to the event, the festivities kicked off with a spirited 5K run, symbolizing the ongoing journey towards gender equality and the collective determination required to overcome challenges. Participants, spanning from civilians to military personnel, gathered at Warriors Park early in the morning to gear up for the run and listen to some inspirational words from Col. John Poole, 375th Air Mobility Wing commander.

During his opening remarks, Poole talked about the history of Virginia Minor, a member of the National American Women’s Suffrage Association in Missouri, and the significant role she and her organization played in the 19th Amendment.

“We are here to reflect on the heroes who fought for change and fulfilled the promise of the Declaration of Independence that we all are created equal," said Poole.

After the run, members of Team Scott convened for a thought-provoking "Lunch and Learn" session at the Scott Event Center. Distinguished experts in leadership, and personal development led engaging discussions, fostering an environment of education and empowerment. Army Maj. Gen. Susan Henderson, United States Transportation Command chief of staff, talked about 130 years of accomplishments, highlighting the many strides that have been made in gender equality.

Henderson stated, "Our country has come a long way … a milestone in my mind is when we are no longer celebrating a first, when the firsts’ are over. That in my mind is when we met a milestone and people will no longer think twice about women holding any position at any level."

Throughout the day, an atmosphere of camaraderie and determination prevailed, as diverse participants united to celebrate progress and exchange ideas. The events adeptly blended invigorating physical activity with meaningful conversation, creating an atmosphere of connections and inspiration.

As the event concluded, Henderson expressed gratitude to participants, sponsors, and supporters who contributed to the Women's Equality Day celebrations. She underscored the significance of such events that create a culture of empowerment and respect within the military e and the broader community.

The Women's Equality Day 5K run and "Lunch and Learn" showcased Team Scott’s dedication to fostering an environment where every individual, regardless of gender, can flourish and contribute to national security.
