PORT MORESBY, Papua New Guinea — Air Force Gen. Jacqueline Van Ovost arrived in Port Moresby Dec. 11 where she met with Katherine Monahan, the U.S. Charge d’ Affairs.

Their discussions centered on actioning the U.S.-Papua New Guinea Defense Cooperation Agreement, signed earlier this year, and Papua New Guinea’s critical role and unique position in providing humanitarian aid and disaster relief as well as responding to other crises in the region. The talks also emphasized the importance of continued bi- and multi-lateral security cooperation with allies and partners, shared strategic interests and regional challenges, and highlighted our shared vision of a free and open Indo-Pacific.

U.S. Transportation Command is a warfighting combatant command that projects and sustains military power at a time and place of the nation’s choosing. USTRANSCOM underwrites the lethality of the joint force, advances American interests around the globe, and provides our nation’s leaders with strategic flexibility to select from multiple options, while creating multiple dilemmas for our adversaries.
