Scott Air Force Base, Ill. – U.S. Transportation Command (USTRANSCOM) proudly celebrates the 75th anniversary of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), reaffirming its ironclad commitment to the defensive alliance.

NATO marked its 75th anniversary today, honoring the Washington Treaty signed by 12 Allies in 1949. USTRANSCOM, since its inception, has stood with NATO, supporting numerous operations and humanitarian missions that exemplify the alliance’s values.

“As we commemorate NATO’s 75th anniversary, USTRANSCOM reaffirms our steadfast commitment to our alliance partners,” said Air Force Gen. Jacqueline Van Ovost, commander, USTRANSCOM. “Through joint efforts and with unwavering dedication, we have stood shoulder-to-shoulder with NATO, supporting critical missions and operations that uphold peace, security and prosperity.”

Although USTRANSCOM was formally established in 1987, several components and units within the command have supported NATO over the past seven decades and continue to provide vital assistance to NATO Allies from airlifting humanitarian aid to coordinating ground support operations.

USTRANSCOM’s naval and ground support capabilities have bolstered NATO’s collective defensive posture, strengthened the alliance’s deterrence capabilities and enhanced interoperability among member states. The command has supported NATO in a wide range of exercises and operations whether it be delivering aid and hope to Ukraine, conducting global patient movement operations as it did during Operation Resolute Support in Afghanistan, supporting Military Coordination Centre Europe, or conducting air refueling missions in various theaters.

USTRANSCOM is currently supporting exercise DEFENDER 24 – Dynamic Employment of Forces to Europe for NATO Deterrence and Enhanced Readiness, scheduled March 31-May 31. The exercise is linked to NATO’s Steadfast Defender 24 which ultimately seeks to deter adversaries and strengthen the NATO alliance.

As NATO continues to adapt to evolving security challenges, USTRANSCOM stands ready to support the alliance's mission, underscoring the importance of collaboration and solidarity in safeguarding shared values and interests.

USTRANSCOM exists as a warfighting combatant command to project and sustain military power at a time and place of the nation’s choosing. Powered by dedicated men and women, USTRANSCOM underwrites the lethality of the Joint Force, advances American interests around the globe, and provides our nation's leaders with strategic flexibility to select from multiple options, while creating multiple dilemmas for our adversaries.
